   The only reason I bought this, was to use at the beach for my umbrella and it worked great. I drill the full length of the drill backing up a couple times a few inches to help relieve the sand from the drill. I have a beach wagon so bringing my drill is not an issue.

   I've had this type of auger before and it didn't work well or last long. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I needed it for making some holes for a deer fence, and it worked like a charm -- way better than whacking the fence posts with a post driver or sledgehammer. Our soil isn't very rocky, but it has lots of tangled roots, and this bit cut through well.
   
   Then, since I already had it on hand, I used it for planting bulbs as well. I planted probably about 100 bulbs in 30 minutes. I can definitely see using this to break up compacted soil as well. Overall a great purchase.

   I drilled probably 150 holes with hit. By the end the tip was pretty much rounded off due to the many rocks in my very hard soil. It was put to the test and nothing gave way as it is well constructed with good welds, etc. Very happy with the total experience. I'd buy then again as I plan on doing more drilling in the spring to help my new trees survive my hard soil.

   Makes me look like I'm the man of every situation when I show up with my DeWalt cordless drill and this bit at the beach! I use it to secure my umbrella while others are flying away!
   
   I guess it would also work for bulbs and other stuff because it really just drills holes in the ground!

   Couldn't afford a tiller, didn't want to do it with hand tools. My dirt is 75% rock and 25%clay it's a nightmare. This tool has made starting a garden a breeze. Digging post holes usually took 30+ mins by hand and with this tool and my drill less than 1min. If it hasn't broke in my "rock" garden I doubt anyone should have a duribility issue.
