I received the Carlinkit dongle and hooked it up yesterday in my 2015 Ford F-150. I upgraded my truck from Sync2 to Sync3 and the Sync 3 has the latest 3.4 software. Connected phone through bluetooth to the device, and CarPlay started working wirelessly. Connects automatically now when I get in my truck. Pretty nifty little device!

This worked perfectly on my aftermarket Pumpkin android head unit. I used the head unit for 2 years before purchasing this. When i rented a car last year it had CarPlay built into it and i really enjoyed it. This addition to my personal vehicle makes the experience a lot better than the native android OS functionality. It had no problem recognizing the add-on device and connects to my iPhone every time.

You can mimic what's on your phone which is good. The only down side is if you are using this for navigation, you cannot use your headunits radio feature. Also, the music/podcast volume level is pretty low, even after turning the phone volume all the way up. It's useful if you just want to quickly run Nav off your head unit without having to tether and pair it to your phone.

Have been using the last 2 days on my 2020 XC90. I followed the inlcuded instructions and was up and running in less than 5 minutes. Subsequent drives it auto-connects in the time a traditional Bluetooth connection takes. Music playback and app functionality has been flawless, it's a bit insane car manufactures don't just enable this automatically. But I'm very happy with it so far. My wife has yet to sync her phone to it though and I'm fearing what it will be like on drives where we're both in the car and the device has to choose one of the phones to go with. The entertainment system knows which phone to use via bluetooth based on the driver profile engaged, but there wouldn't be a way for that to extend to this dongle knowing which phone to pair with. Anywho, solid product.

Make SURE you update the firmware, and then update it a couple more times. mine took two updates to get to the "up to date" screen. the instructions say to connect to phone wifi blah blah, don't do any of that, just get it connected and then scan the QR code and open the URL in safari and tap update. super easy.

One-time setup was a breeze and it triggered an automatic firmware update to the Carlinkit device. Now when I start my F-150, a new startup screen displays for a couple of seconds while the Carlinkit device finds my iPhone and then CarPlay kicks in, without me doing anything. The same functionality you get via CarPlay with the Ford Sync system, you get with this. My F-150 has 2 USB ports on the dashboard; so I appreciate that the Carlinkit device also has a USB port. It means that I can power my wireless charger and the Carlinkit device through one USB port and keep a USB port free for a passenger to use.
