This product arrived quickly and in minimal waste packaging. So, its battery powered and its magnets, that's the secrete. There is no assembly required and yes you do need to charge it upon receiving the item but it doesn't take long. You can really only use one metal ball at a time or they clog the system up and it doesn't function correctly. it is also pretty loud as its a metal ball gliding on hard plastic. it does what it is designed to do, and its fun to watch but i moved on quickly.
